Don't get me wrong, I like all of these ingredients - in fact, I had them on hand. I just wasn't sure, but, given Dorie's track record, I was willing to suspend my disbelief. Well, no harm, no foul. No dinner guests in the plan for today, so hey, why not give it a whirl???
Of course, couldn't be simpler. A few ingredients - a combination of salty, sweet & crunchy.
This one was not for me. I think I'll just stop at a little butter and cheese next time. But it was fun to try, even if it didn't turn out. Of course, I agree with Dorie, these flavors would be fabulous with some dark chocolate. Unfortunately, I'm just not sophisticated enough to really enjoy this dish. I hope everyone else was pleased though!!!
Too bad you didn't like it. Your pictures look great though!
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you. I liked the browned butter and Parmesan the most about this dish. The bits of fig were a nice surprise though. Despite the taste of this dish, the look of your dish is pretty great!
ReplyDeleteWell...now that I know you are a blogger I can trust... I think that Dorie was probably STARVING that night she stumbled into the bistro at closing time. (Maybe a bit drunk too?) I'll stick with MY version!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you weren't wowed by this one. I agree - there are too many things going on in this dish. However, I did like the addition of nuts to my pasta. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, it's not a sophistication problem :) - we're just not wired for these flavors. I have to laugh at Sis Boom's comment about being drunk when encountering this dish. I do believe that no one but Dorie could've convinced me to even try it.
ReplyDeleteAww, so sad that you didn't like it! I wasn't a huge fan of the buttered pasta on it's own but I loved all the plumped up fruit with the browned butter and cheese! Your picture looks delicious though!
ReplyDeleteAt least you gave it a shot! I know my family wouldn't go for this, so I made a tiny portion for myself...and enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteI liked this, but I probably won't be making it again - it's a little out of our comfort zone. I'm glad you tried it even though you didn't like it - that's what FFwD is all about!
ReplyDeleteYou had fun putting it together, and that's what matters! At least you had everything on hand. Next week should be awesome with the salted butter breakaways.
ReplyDeleteHey, at least you gave it a shot! This one seemed to either be a hit or a miss for everyone. Maybe next time?
ReplyDeleteAt least you tried it. Its great there are so many food combinations for all our different tastes!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't say you aren't sophisticated enough for this dish. It was weird. Goof for you for trying it. You never know.
ReplyDeleteI was skeptic at first but I really liked the nutty and sweet flavor of this dish :)
ReplyDeleteIt's not necessarily sophistication. Every dish just isn't for everyone. I liked it on day 1, but found it was not a reheat meal at all for me.
ReplyDeleteThis is an unusual dish but we had fun with the flavors. We thought it was great. Yours looks perfect.
ReplyDeleteYou are right, maybe if I was in Paris I would have been swept away by the mood and environment and would have liked this dish! That's a lovely way to look at! I'm going to go with that! Thank You!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I've awarded you a Stylish Blogger Award! See the details here: http://yummychunklet.wordpress.com/2011/03/13/sorry-raisins-youll-get-no-love-here/
ReplyDeleteI agree that it would be better with chocolate! Oh well, I guess that's why we do this thing: to make dishes we might not normally have chosen. Here's to next week and the Salted Butter Breakups!
ReplyDeleteToo bad you didn't like it, but at least you gave it a shot! Your dish looks good...even if it didn't quite live up to expectations.
ReplyDeleteI agree! I would much rather go to Paris and pick up some Mendiants, methinks.
